Specialist study skills and strategy support (ASC and SpLD)

Specialist tutors provide 1-2-1 support, remotely, to help students overcome the barriers towards learning which can be faced by individuals who are diagnosed with a range of conditions including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) etc. The support provides students with ‘human support’ that is individually tailored to the students needs. All support will help the student to develop strategies and study skills which will ultimately support independent learning within Higher Education.

All sessions work on identified needs and can include support with time management and organisation, note taking strategies, memory techniques and strategies, to name a few. Within sessions targets are set which empower the individual and align to the students needs and progress is monitored to ensure that skills develop. Please note that study skills support is not subject specific tuition.

Specialist Mentor (ASC & ADHD)

Mentors offer students 1-2-1, remote, ‘human support’ sessions which provide additional, individually tailored, support to those students diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. The support helps students access their studies through identifying barriers to their learning and then, over time, equipping them with the relevant strategies and skills to practice independent learning.

Furthermore, the support enables the student to gain a better understanding of the impact that ASC and/or ADHD has on their learning, enabling them to fully utilise their strengths with education and through to the world of work.

Specialist Mentor (Mental Health)

Mentors offer students 1-2-1, remote, ‘human support’ sessions to help address any barriers towards their learning that is due to a mental health difficulty. Our specialist mentors help students to overcome their barriers by setting goals which develop the students self-help strategies and skills. All support is individually tailored to each students needs and reviewed regularly. Support can address topics such as study related stress, anxiety and motivation.

Please note that this support is not the same as a counselling service and does not replace any therapy or support a student may already have.

Assistive technology training – Non-Medical Health(NMH)

Our assistive technology experts offer personalized and remote support to students on their assistive technology to overcome learning barriers. These barriers can affect individuals with various conditions, such as dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Assistive technology is any device, software or hardware that can help a person with a disability to perform tasks more easily and independently.

The support is tailored to the specific needs of each student and provides them with human guidance and feedback. Assistive technology can enhance independent learning in higher education by helping students with time management, organization, note taking, spelling, and more. Our expert trainers create individual learning plans, set goals with the students and monitor their progress and confidence in using assistive technology effectively.

We offer training on the full array of DSA approved assistive software which can include:

  • Dragon
  • Mindview
  • ClaroRead
  • Grammarly
  • Glean
  • Global Auto Correct

A library of free assistive technology is also available here on our website.
